MIDDLEBURG METHODIST TO HONOR FIRST RESPONDERS
In recognition of the 10th anniversary of 9/11 Middleburg United Methodist Church will conduct a brief service in the Church sanctuary at 11:30 AM on Saturday, September 10th, to honor First Responders. All First Responders in the community and their families have been invited to the service and the BBQ luncheon immediately following the ceremony. Loudoun County Supervisor Jim Burton will be on hand to assist in the presentation of the certificates to the honorees.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend the service to support these public servants so worthy of our gratitude. Any member of the public, other than First Responders and family members, who wish to attend the luncheon, may do so by making a donation to the Church. Please RSVP to the Church office at

August 6, 2011 - Yard Sale - Pastor Leah made donuts. They were a big hit! Nothing better than a fresh donut! Here is the recipe folks have requested.
Potato Donuts
2 packages dry yeast
½ cup warm water
2 cups scalded milk
2/3 cup shortening
2 tsp. salt
½ cup sugar
1 cup mashed potatoes
2 eggs
~ 6 cups flour
Dissolve yeast in water. After 5 minutes, add milk, shortening, salt, sugar, potatoes, eggs, and 3 cups of flour. Beat well with an electric mixer or by hand. Gradually add more flour till you have a soft dough. Knead several minutes. Place dough in a lightly oiled bowl. Let rise till double in size. Punch down dough; divide in two portions. Using a rolling pin, roll out one portion till about ½” thick. Cut with a donut cutter. Place the circles on a lightly floured cloth and let rise 45-60 minutes. Fry in hot oil at 375 degrees, turning once. Glaze while still warm.
Glaze: 1 pound confectioners sugar, 6 Tbs. milk, 1 Tbs. vanilla. (Maple flavoring may be used instead.)
